Why should I use the Envirometer?
There are many reasons to use the Envirometer. Examples include:
- to obtain clear environmental registration overview for making reports
- to determine your environmental priorities
- to show improvements in your environmental score
- to generate a (public) carbon footprint of your company/department
- to create sustainability indicators for your company
You can read more about his in the product information and on the rest of the website.
Who uses the Envirometer?
The Envirometer is used by thousands of companies in various sectors, including the corporate service sector, the healthcare sector and goverments. Companies can make a flying start thanks to the built-in presets (per sector) for energy and waste items. This can be easily customised afterwards by adding or removing items.

What are the computer and software requirements for the Envirometer?
To use the Envirometer, you will need:
- an internet connection
- the latest version of your internet browser (the program is compatible with Firefox 8 or higher) Internet Explorer (9 or higher) and Safari (5 or higher)
- a PDF reader, since the reports are exported as PDF files
The Envirometer can be used with monitors of 15 inches or larger, but was not designed for screens this size and may therefore be less user-friendly.
Can I share/report on the results of the Envirometer?
There are several ways to share your Envirometer results:
- With the PDF report generator you can easily make a structured Envirometer report. You can choose which elements (graphs, tables, overviews) you include in the report.
- With the press of a button you can publish your CO2 footprint.
- You can export graphs (as PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG) and use them in your own presentation.
- Another possibility is to give someone ‘read-only’ rights to your Envirometer.
Whats the model behind the Envirometer/Milieubarometer
Stimular Foundation has developed the model behind the Envirometer together with CE Delft. The calculation of the Environmental burden in the Environmental Barometer is based on shadow pricing. In 2017, the calculation model for this is completely updated and this is the beginning of 2018 gone online. The approach and backgrounds of the method are described here (in Dutch).
From which industries are average values available in the Envirometer?
The Envirometer has benchmarks (for comparison purposes) for fifteen industries. Graphs and industry indicators for other industries are available in the section sector examples.
Several other pages offer indicators for other industries (e.g. the construction industry at stichting Bouwresearch SBR).
Will my Envirometer be used to generate benchmarks?
No, the data from your Envirometer will only be used with your permission. This permission has to be specifically requested in order to participate in a benchmark.
How will Stimular use my information?
Your address information will be used for our subscription management and to keep you informed of the latest Envirometer developments.
As for your input data:
- Stimular guarantees that third parties cannot access or edit your information
- Stimular will conduct a daily a back-up of the database where this data is stored
- Stimular will not use your data without your permission
For more information, consult our terms of use in your Envirometer account.
Can I get a demo version of the Envirometer?
To watch a demonstration of the Envirometer, log in by entering:
- Email: demodemo@stimular.nl
- Password: demodemo
Note: You have only fill in rights, which means not all features are available. You will not be able to change the settings and certain administrator functions are not editable or available.
Which data are obligatory to complete the Envirometer
The minimum data for completing the Envirometer depends on your goal: do you want to draw up a CO2 footprint, do you want to obtain an ISO 14001 certificate or do you, for example, participate in an Energy Covenant? Your goal often sets requirements for what you must fill out. In practice, the following applies:
- Completed by default
- all forms of energy (electricity, heat, natural gas, etc.) that your organization uses
- vehicle fuels that your organisation uses
- some company details such as m2 floor area, number of employees and / or production volume.
- emissions (refrigerants, solvents)
This allows you to interpret the outcomes better: compare with other companies, follow through the years.
- Often filled in (but can be left out for a CO2 footprint limited to scope 1 & 2)
- water & waste water
- waste flows
- purchase of office paper
- Also regularly included
- commuting, visitor traffic and outsourced goods transport.
- Also available
- CO2 compensation
- other CO2 sources

Can the Envirometer be used internationally?
The Envirometer can definitely be used internationally to assess environmental impact and calculate a carbon footprint. A variety of multinationals has already made use of the Envirometer for their locations outside the Netherlands and even outside Europe.
The Envirometer is completely bilingual (English-Dutch) and very user-friendly as it is possible to switch languages at any time. Needless to say, reports can be produced in English and Dutch.
The Envirometer has a broad and general set-up in full accordance with ISO-14.001 requirements and several other environmental management systems.
The environmental- and CO2-factors are originally Dutch, however they are reasonably similar to those of other European countries. (Whether you use a liter of diesel in the Netherlands or Italy, CO2-emissions are practically the same since the European legislation for vehicles is similar in both countries). Therefore, also measurements can be applied in industrialized countries, as legislation around emissions are comparable to the Netherlands.
